march & april recap

These past two months went by in what feels like two minutes. So much has happened, and I’m still not entirely sure how to put it all into words. But let’s start with the shenanigans — I'll update you on my inner workings another time.

I’ve started training with a private figure skating coach. His name is Dima and he’s the best dot com. I’m learning so much and having the time of my life. As someone who’s wildly competitive — mostly with myself — I had to take a minute to relearn how to have fun instead of spiralling when progress isn’t as fast as I’d like. Progress isn’t linear (PSA for myself, but feel free to take that to heart as well).

Some things clicked almost instantly, others… absolutely not. That’s fine. I’ve only just started taking this seriously. I’m alright. I’ll be better soon. Also, it took me two weeks to go from barely managing to skate backwards to doing backwards crossovers Like, I don't suck at this. Can I do 3-turns yet? No. Will I be able to do them soon? Duh!

Also, spinning is my jam! I wanna be able to do as many spin variations as possible until the end of the year. I don't really care about jumping. I just wanna spin on the ice like there's no tomorrow. I'm also starting doing pistol squads again to prepare for sit spins!

Enough ice talk!

I've started working again! On a whim, I took on a small web project with the folks over at Digitale Dinge and we're now working on a pretty rad white-label design system for their web clients.

some other things:

  • I’ve been on a self improvement journey this past year. What started as a purely aesthetic endeavourturned into… me actually being a happy, confident, life-loving camper? When I started this, I just wanted to have a body I liked again. And while, yes, that happened, a lot more has changed as well. I’m happy. Like, what the fuck? I make friends wherever I go, I’ve become the hype girl I always wanted to be, and I’m popular now? What the actual ever-loving fuck? This time last year, I barely left the house, cancelled plans out of anxiety, and lived in constant self-doubt. Now I’m putting myself out there — with boundaries. I’m really proud of myself.
  • I’m at the rink up to five times a week. I’m part of a group of figure skates renting a whole rink to train. I made so many new friends on the ice! Shoutout to Peter, Cornelia & Johanna!
  • Downside of all this: I’m not reading as much. But honestly? I prefer real life over fiction right now.
  • Rufus didn’t have any injures these past two months but many croissants. Shoutout to the lovely people at Nook!
  • Speaking of lovely people: last year I met Sascha and her pup while waiting for Nook to open. And I absolutely adore this woman. Sometimes you meet people and you just know you’ll vibe. But there’s such a beauty in getting super close with someone and becoming fast friends. She’s such a fantastic, strong, beautiful human and I’m inspired by her every day!
  • Yeah, life’s good! Depression can go fuck off.
  • Also: I’m exclusively shopping in the kids’ section now. Cheaper, better quality, cuter.
  • I did get a new hair cut, and it's too short and I hated it at first but now I'm growning to like it.

memorable reads

  • stepford wives — hadn’t reread this in probably two decades, feels scarier now.
  • the other side of now — this one hit hard. Losing my best friend young left a mark, and I don’t think I’ll ever stop imagining a version of the world where he’s still here. Where I get to say everything I never said. Where I stop blaming myself, even though it wasn’t my fault.
  • the book witch — jumping into books to save a story? fuck yes.
